1) Project Manager ELT (Deadline extended)
The British Council is looking for suitably qualified and experienced individual
to fill the post of Finance Officer. This person must have the right to

work in Nigeria.Purpose of job:
To contribute to the regional strategy for English in Sub-Saharan Africa.
To manage a portfolio of large scale and local ELT projects, mainly through
partnerships to meet the British Councils objectives and targets.
Context and environment:(e.g. dept description, region description, organogram)
The post will involve managing ongoing and new projects in Nigeria under the
supervision of the English Language Teaching Adviser. The post will involve
projects for learners of English, teachers of English and policymakers.
Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties:(including people management
and finance)
The postholder will be responsible for managing a number of projects within the
British Councils global English portfolio. Specific duties will include:
financial accounting and planning for each project, using the following tools:
- SAP financial reports to verify charges and identify/correct
mis-charges/omissions promptly, as part of risk control procedure
- SAP financial planning/forecasting functions to ensure that up-to-date
forecasts of project expenditure are maintained and that budgets are properly
and accurately managed
- monthly cash flow estimates which accurately reflect project expenditure
requirements
- raising or approving purchase orders for operational expenditure items
project planning, monitoring and evaluation, using the following tools:
- project logic models
- Gantt charts to reflect planned activity
- scorecard instruments (audience forecasts and actuals, quality of service
questionnaires)

managing relationships with project partners, and representing the project to
other external stakeholders
ensuring projects are marketed to the highest standard in print , digitally and
at event.
soliciting partnership funding against specified income targets
ensuring that all project activity reflects key equal opportunities and
diversity issues

The postholder will be accountable to English Language Teaching Adviser for the
successful progress and implementation of each project. The role will involve
team work with one or more Project Officer(s) and one other Project Manager.

2) Temporary Project Officer Lagos

support the achievement of country plan objectives in Nigeria by delivering
examinations To support the direct and indirect delivery of a portfolio of large
scale and local projects, increasingly through partnership , to meet the British
Councils objectives and targets and partner expectations in Nigeria To support a
network of internal and external service providers and partners to meet all

description, organogram)The post will involve supporting large scale projects in
Nigeria under the supervision of the Project Manager-Schools or other named
Project Managers. The post will be based in Lagos and required to work across
various project portfolios as necessary.Main Duties and Responsibilities:In line
with EOD and other overarching corporate policies:Project delivery: To provide
support for projects and organise events to a high standard and within deadline.
To make arrangements for visitors including booking travel, accommodation and
preparing programmes.Financial administration: to provide financial support to

raising of purchase orders, getting quotes from suppliers, tracking payments and

enquirers engage with the British Council Nigeria for a number of purposes with
the majority being for examinations. Nigeria is the largest British Council
exams business in the Sub Saharan Africa region. It administers exams in four
subject areas: Schools, Professional/Vocational, Educational on behalf of UK
institutions and IELTS. In 2012-13 we will delivered roughly 70,000 exams to
25,000 candidates. The Nigeria team comprises 22 people and are based mainly in
Lagos with five in Abuja and four in Port Harcourt.The SSA region delivers exams
in over 20 countries from its offices in 16 of these countries. In 2012, we
delivered a quarter of a million exams to over 100k candidates. Growth in the
region is robust, but our challenges are many. Nevertheless, Exams teams are

Nigeria Exams is the largest British Council exams business in the Sub Saharan
Africa region. It administers exams in four subject areas: Schools,
Professional/Vocational, Educational on behalf of UK institutions and IELTS. In
2013-1 we will deliver roughly 75,000 exams to 25,000 candidates. The team
comprises 22 people and are based mainly in Lagos with five in Abuja and four in
Port Harcourt.

The post holder will join of a team of 3 who administer the growing IELTS
businesses ensuring quality and compliance as well as control of income and
expenditure to deliver on target. Delivery will be in Lagos with usually two
sittings per month. This role will support the delivery of exams in Port
Harcourt, Ibadan and other centres as necessary.

5) IELTS Examiners

The British Council is looking for suitably qualified and experienced
individuals to join our team of IELTS Examiners.
Purpose of jobExaminers conduct one to one interviews with IELTS candidates to
assess their spoken English according to set requirements. Examiners also assess
written scripts produced by candidates under exam conditions. Examiners are
recruited on a casual basis and are expected to examine at least ten sessions a
year at regular intervals. Remuneration is paid per interview/script. Weekend
working is usually required. IELTS examinations regularly take place in Lagos,
Abuja and Port Harcourt. Therefore, we are looking for examiners who live in, or
within relatively easy reach of these cities. We may occasionally run
examinations in other cities in Nigeria.
Requirements

An undergraduate degree or a qualification which can be demonstrated to be
equivalent to an undergraduate degree.
A recognised qualification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
(TESOL) / Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) / or recognised
equivalent as part of a recognised university award course.**
At least 3 years full time (14 hours per week minimum or the equivalent part
time) relevant TESOL/TEFL teaching experience (minimum one year post certificate
level qualification). The majority of this teaching experience must relate to
adult students (16 years and over).

IELTS 9.0. A first degree plus a Nigerian PGDE or M.Ed/MA in TESOL or TEFL
(transcripts verify course content), plus relevant teaching experience and IELTS
