The Service The Museums & Records Service (MRS) is responsible for
the care of the citys archive and museum collections comprising some
1,000,000 items that document the history and culture of the city and
for making them accessible to both residents and visitors. We operate 6
museums including the D-Day Museum, Southsea Castle and Charles
Dickens Birthplace. A range of audience development initiatives helps
to ensure that people from communities across the city benefit from the
collections we hold. Cumberland House is Portsmouths Natural History
Museum. Situated close to the beach and Canoe Lake, it attracts some
50,000 visits per annum and is extremely popular with families with
young children. The main attraction is a small Butterfly House. The
museum requires some tlc and input from a natural history enthusiast
with energy and vision - hence the need for this new post.
What is the role? This post will bring a new energy and dynamism to
the museum. We are looking for someone to enhance the offer at the
museum for families and other audiences through events, hands-on
activities and new displays delivered with the support of volunteers. We
see the museum as a hub for natural history / wildlife related activity
in the city and expect the post to work in partnership with other

colleagues responsible for the citys wildlife areas and the Friends of

a close working relationship with the Visitor Services Manager.
The post will be based at Cumberland House.
Closing time/date, 17:00, on the 15th of April 2013
Interviews to held on 23rd of April 2013
